Oh Yeah, I Went to Austin!

Did I mention I was making a quick trip to Austin last weekend? Guess not. I'm really slacking over here at Misadventures. Is it time for a blog hiatus?

Anyway, about a month ago (probably after a Saturday spent watching Season 1 of Friday Night Lights and rolling around in nostalgia for hours on end) I decided I didn't want to wait til Christmas to see the fam. I think I realized I'm just not the kind of Texas girl that sees my peeps only twice a year. I wanted to see how my sister was doing and see my friends in Austin. Also, my sis and I needed to make a trip to Bryan America to see where my mom is threatening to move in a couple of years, AFTER she sells the house we've been in since I was two. No sentiment there or anything.

So, on Thursday after my Town Car cabbie tried to rip me off and charge me $5 more than I gave him (to which I said, "Whatever, dude, keep what ya got" and got out of the car), I rolled up to LGA to discover my plane was delayed two hours. Bugger. But I eventually got to Austin Bergstrom, where my sis and B.I.L. were almost on time to pick me up. Yay Austin!

Friday: requisite cheese enchiladas at Vivo's. Then a trip to the crown jewel of Texas grocery stores, HEB, for foodstuffs for the dinner party and pumpkins for later that nobody was excited about carving but me. On the way home from the store, my sister spotted a dog wandering in a yard down the street without a collar and started knocking on doors trying to figure out who his owner was. We took him to her house and she checked with Craig, and within half an hour had reunited Toby (his name) with his owner, who started crying tears of relief when she saw him in the yard. It was beautiful.

Saturday: headed to the parental unit's place in Bryan, America. That's the good life, Texas style, remember? On the way through Caldwell, I snapped a picture of this place. I'm not sure if you can tell what the "motif" is, but here's a hint - the place is called The Texan Lounge.

I dragged the pumpkins to my mom's house since we didn't get to them on Friday night. Addie kept an eye on them for me.
We headed back to Austin Sunday night, where things got a little crafty. My sister showed Ms.Lutty the ins and outs of punch needle embroidery...

and Daveed supervised B.i.L.on the intricacies of...
SKELETOR!
Here's my Mr. Bill-esque attempt, with my sis's pirate. Don't you like the pointy pumpkin hat on mine??

Awww, Austin. I love you so.

I totally scored a ride home from the airport Monday, complete with a free dinner AND my two bags delivered to my door - 6th flights up! I'd tell you who, but you probably wouldn't believe me.

Oh. And as I write this, it's Halloween night and I turned down an invite to check out the W. Village parade ostensibly because I was doing "work" for school. But instead, I'm watching an unspeakable horror (in celebration of the day, of course!) Please don't tell anyone.

Welcome back Em! That trip looks like much needed family time. I'm counting my days to Christmas!
