Afterward we had some time to kill before a party in Tribeca, so we headed over to Half-King for some drinks. (You know how I enjoy the Strongbow on tap.) While there, we spotted a guy sporting an El Chavo shirt. (If you don't know who El Chavo is, you probably a) don't watch Spanish language tv, or a) and b) don't find adults pretending to be children amusing. But THIS guy does!
After I got some cider in me and felt ready to face another night of partying, we headed over to ANOTHER Laredo girl's apartment in Tribeca, to the b-day party she was throwing for her husband, The Jewish Samurai.
After awhile, the party migrated to their neighborhood bar, Raccoon Lodge.
The craziest part of the night was that I saw a girl I recognized... FROM A BLOG. I went up to her and was like, "Um, hi, is your name Amanda?" and when she said yes, I was like, "I'm so embarrassed. I just recognized you from your blog." She was a little taken aback, a la "Hello there, stalker" but I think she quickly decided it was cool to be blog-famous, while I quickly decided it was totally lame to be all blog-stalkery. Oh well. What's funny is that I LOVED her blog - it's about her and two other friends and the year they spent traveling around the world. Turns out that when the Laredo girl in NYC (friend of a friend, the one throwing the party) moved to New York several years ago, she found her roommates on craigslist, and Amanda was one of them. Life is random, right?
From Tribeca we ended up at Rodeo Bar near Patsy's place, where I talked to an obnoxious Irishman (my favorite kind) and someone swiped Ms.Lutty's camera. Boo. I passed out on Patsy's futon sometime around 4am. Sunday involved brunch in Astor Place, walking around St. Mark's Place, and bevs at Bar None. It was kind of rainy, so Juanita showed us the rain boots he bought last time he was home, at the Macy's in Laredo. Aren't they cute?
Somebody put some Foreigner or some such on the jukebox, and the kids felt compelled to slow dance, 7th grade style.
Thinking about slow-dancing 7th grade style makes me think about listening to Crazy for You by Madonna while I stared longingly at Toby Higginbotham on the dance floor with Dustie Householder, his floppy hair resting on her shoulder. (In 7th grade Toby was a good three inches shorter than all the girls.) I imagine the smell of Polo Ralph Lauren cologne was wafting in the air. Ah, my young 7th grade heart, so full of longing. Sigh.
The evening ended with us convincing Patsy that we really didn't have to drag Ms.Lutty to The Urge to check out the male go-go dancers for the weekend to be a success. At that point I couldn't have moved off the couch if I wanted to, so I was glad the party stayed indoors. The rest of the evening (and early morning) was your basic apartment party free entertainment. See below.
At 3:30am when I could function we hopped in a cab to Harlem USA, scarfed down some snacks, and were up by 10am the next morning so Ms.Lutty could catch a train to the airport. Now it's five days later and the haze has finally lifted. That's KIND OF like rolling the stone away, right? (How's THAT for an Easter allusion??)
So happy Easter weekend, everyone. I'm having Easter brunch with the Jewish cousins in Jerz on Sunday. Go figure. Anyway, eat some Peeps and call your mom.
